High School - Playoff quarter-final rounds

The Kingston area High School soccer season came to an end last week and the playoffs began in earnest this past Monday evening.

The top eight teams in each division (Junior and Senior for both Boys and Girls) make it to the quarter final round of the playoffs. The top placed teams move onto the EOSSAA tournament with a chance at playing in OFSAA in the second week of June.

In the Junior Girls division, Holy Cross finished on top of the standings with a 6-0-0 record, with Sydenham High School, Regiopolis-Notre Dame, and KCVI rounding out the top four teams. Frontenac, Napanee District, Lasalle, and Marie Rivier made up the remaining teams. LCVI took the place of Marie Rivier as the final seed for the playoffs. The first three games took place on May 14th and resulted in an 8-0 win by Holy Cross over LCVI, Regiopolis-Notre Dame defeating Napanee District 4-0, and KCVI defeating Frontenac by a 3-2 scoreline. Sydenham defeated Lasalle by a 2-1 scoreline on May 15th. This sets up semi-final matchups between Sydenham and Regiopolis-Notre Dame and Holy Cross and KCVI, both to be played on May 22nd, with the final to follow on May 24th at the INVISTA Centre.

In the Senior Girls division, Regiopolis-Notre Dame completed the season in first place with a 6-0-0 record. Behind them were Frontenac, Napanee District, Sydenham, Holy Cross, KCVI, Lasalle, and Bayridge. All of the games were played on May 14th with Regiopolis-Notre Dame coasting to a 6-0 win over Bayridge, Frontenac defeating Lasalle by a 4-0 scoreline, Napanee Distrct winning 5-1 over KCVI, and Holy Cross upsetting Sydenham by a 2-1 scoreline. These results set up semi-finals between Regiopolis-Notre Dame and Holy Cross and Frontenac hosting Napanee District on May 22nd, with the final to be played at St. Lawrence College on May 24th.

Over in the Junior Boys division, Bayridge pipped Regiopolis-Notre Dame for first place with a 5-1-0 season, while Regiopolis-Notre Dame went undefeated with a 4-0-2 season. The two teams did not face each other in regular season play in 2012. Frontenac, Holy Cross, Sydenham, Napanee District, LCVI, and KCVI rounded the top eight teams. All of the quarter final games were played today (May 15th) with two of them ending in kicks from the mark to decide the winners. Bayridge won after drawing the game with KCVI 1-1 in regulation, and won 2-0 in the shootout. Regiopolis Notre-Dame also had trouble with LCVI, defeating them by a 2-1 scoreline in regulation. Frontenac handled Napanee District by a 5-0 scoreline, and Holy Cross and Sydenham battled to a scoreless draw before Holy Cross prevailed 3-1 in the shootout. This sets up semi-final matchups on May 22nd between Bayridge and Holy Cross in the first semi-final and Regiopolis-Notre Dame and Frontenac in the second with the winners playing in the final at the INVISTA Centre on May 24th.

The Senior Boys division featured a number of upsets and two more shootouts. KCVI topped the division finishing with a 5-0-1 record and only gave up one goal in the process, a 1-1 draw with Holy Cross on the final day of the season. Frontenac, last year's champions, finished with a 4-1-1 record, tied with Holy Cross (who were ranked 3rd). Behind them were Ernestown, Sydenham, Bayridge, Regiopolis-Notre Dame, and Lasalle. With all games being played this afternoon (May 15th), KCVI easily defeated Lasalle by a 5-1 scoreline in the first matchup. all three of the other games were upsets, with Sydenham handing Ernestown a 4-0 defeat, Bayridge defeating Holy Cross in a shootout 4-3 after a scoreless draw. In the final game, Regiopolis-Notre Dame played Frontenac to a 3-3 draw and defeated them in the shootout by a 1-0 scoreline after six shooters from each team. Regiopolis-Notre Dame's goalkeeper, Jordan Granger, stopped all six shots he faced, while Frontenac's goalkeeper, Chandler McDougal was unable to stop the final shot he faced. These results set up a first semi-final between KCVI and Regiopolis-Notre Dame and a second between Sydenham and Bayridge, both to be played on May 22nd with the winners playing at St. Lawrence college on May 24th.
